I'm struggling to link a Customer to an Asset with data obtained from the API in a consistent way.
Through the API I can obtain Assets and a one to one relationship with a site. Through the site I can obtain Customers array but for our business we may have many customers associated with a single site. What I am trying to do is link a customer to an asset to obtain some metrics. Where there is a single customer in the array this isnt a problem the issue is some of our largest and most important sites have multiple customers.
Does SimPro hold a link for asset owner and is it available via the API or BI or should we look at restructuring our data so that the owner of the asset is against a different site than the contractors we work with i.e. sites with assets have a single customer?

Re: Linking Assets to Customers
Hi ciderapple,
based on my understanding of your question it seems that you are looking to obtain site-centric data, whereas our data is customer-centric; that is for a given customer (simPRO build) we hold data relevant to them alone, so if more than one customer (simPRO build) performs work for the same site we have no way of identifying that (we do not need to).

Re: Linking Assets to Customers
I'd let this issue drop but it's becoming a problem once more in another scenario.
I am looking at the 'Customer asset list report' on Simpro.
Even if I filter the report to look for a particular customer I still see ALL the customer(s) array in the report for every company we do work for on that site. This array holds 36 companies in the example I am looking at, most have nothing to do with the assets.
The situation has arisen because the initial work may be done for a building company, a services provider or a facilities management organisation. None of which are the beneficial owner of the product we have installed and maintain. All these other companies work for the 'main customer' that runs their primary operation from the site, for example a hospital. We are required to invoice the other subcontractors for work carried out on their behalf. Once the build phase is finished the maintenance contracts etc are operated for the main site customer. We cannot delete all the other customers as new builds often require engaging with them again at that site.
Despite the assertion that simpro is customer centric the relationship remains many to many, a customer has many sites a site has many customers. Assets can be obtained from the customer card- site card - customer assets route for any of these 36 customers it implies each of these customers owns the assets.
Is there a better way of fulfilling these requirements with a different build on our part to ensure reporting shows assets against the asset owner not all the subcontractors on that site?
We have a few sites like this with 10+ customers but when there is only one customer there isnt a problem!

Re: Linking Assets to Customers
Hi ciderapple,
Unfortunately, Simpro Assets are only linked to the sites and not directly to customers. Hence, when searching from the Customer Asset List Report, you are getting all the customers associated with the site listed and no direct relation between Asset and Customer.
Since this is more of a Simpro functionality, I would suggest you submit a request through the Product Portal if you have not already, suggesting to have the Assets linked to Customers:
