BI reports automation

Post by cit » Mon May 13, 2024 2:18 pm

Hi,

We would like to use BI reports to expose data to customers in some kind of automated fashion. The "scheduled reports" functionality is way too restrictive to get the data in a suitable format.

Are there ways to achieve this along the lines of the following:

- Is there a plan to allow scheduled send-to-email BI reports?
- Is BI report data going to be made available via the simPro API?
- Can we link PowerBI or similar directly to BI reports?

We can build up the same data using the standard simPro API however the number of API calls required would exceed the usage limits so it isn’t a viable option.

We have a number of requirements for this that are currently being created manually so this has a very large operational impact for us.

Thanks,
Duncan

Hi Duncan,

At present, there are no intentions to incorporate BI reporting via API, and there are no future plans to do so. For any inquiries regarding BI reporting, please contact Simpro Support.

Just in case any one is interested I had the following reply from the support team which I wasn't aware of. The dashboard subscription has given us the extra functionality we needed.
With BI you can create dashboard with which you can add your BI questions to and setup what is referred to as a Subscription which allows you to send out that dashboard in an email and or include the questions as a CSV attachment.

Unfortunately I'm not sure if you can link it through the API, i'd recommend asking that in our API forum https://apiforum.simprogroup.com/

There is no way to actively link Power BI to Simpro. There are ways where a copy of the data can be provided to you with which you can then use.
