unique identifier on the SimPro PO/allocation line

Hi
We are testing a feature at the moment to populate the cost code thats on the SimPro PO line onto the PO line in our application for the user to see and enable multi cost code split. However, we have hit an issue in testing this when we allocated the existing PO line in Simpro to another cost code, instead of updating this existing line it created a secondary line in our application.
Is anyone able to help on how we get a unique identifier on the SimPro PO/allocation line in the API so that we can update an existing line rather than create a new one?
