Database connection for Reporting software

I am not a developer so apologise if i use the wrong terminology or if this question has already been answered.

We use various database systems within the company i work for. We would like to pull simPRO into the existing dashboards so we have a single view of our entire business. The dashboard software does not link to API but requires a link to a database. Is it possible to link to the simPRO database or, if not, is it possible to then copy our database data from simPRO, deliver it to a stand alone database on our network which our reporting software could then link to. obviously we would want this to be as accurate as possible so the next question is if going down this route is would we need to periodically force a data refresh and if this has been done before by anyone does it cause any kind of slowdown on simPRO.

Thanks in advance

Hi Lucy,

Sounds like you're using a pretty old BI dashboard if it can't connect to APIs. Are you sure you don't want to upgrade to something like Microsoft? There's a company called Tuggers that can setup the realtime data automation from Simpro to that along with recreating your dashboards. I don't believe it's possible to connect directly with the simpro database in the way you're suggesting as you would need to be continually pulling the entire database to keep your dashboards up to date. Using the Api and it's webhooks is much more efficient. This sounds more like a question for your Simpro account manager than the API team.

Hope that helps
Michelle

Hi,

You won't want the whole SimPRO database just to feed a few KPIs in your dashboard. Suggest you look at what you want to display and then gather that data via API. Depending on your Database you maybe able to use it's functionality to make API requests or you may want to create a small custom app to sit on your database server to feed the db the required data. It's not a big mission once you determine your actual requirements.
