Cost to Complete Financial report for closed jobs?

I know by definition "Cost to complete" seems to infer only open jobs are not completed yet. :-)

But there is a date parameter in the endpoint to see what the values were at a certain point in time.

If I set the date parameter to a date when a specific project was still open, I would expect to see the values as it would've been at that time? But unfortunately it doesn't. It seems that as soon as a job is closed it's impossible to get any values for it from the report endpoint.

Would there be any way to allow historical values to be queried?

Thanks!
Johann

Unfortunately there is no report available which would give you historical values for closed jobs. In addition to that, we don't have plans to extend reporting functionality through rest api.

Hi Muqeet,

Well, can you maybe give us some guidance then to help us figure out exactly how to calculate the costs? We're not new to the simPRO API as you know, but have tried several times in the past to try and come up with the same costs values as what is listed in the jobs without success.

We have some clients who run very long projects over many months and want to be able to work out the costs let's say for only a single month.

If you don't know the exact calculation, can you maybe ask around from the core team? Surely there's a query somewhere which you can post in pseudocode... eg.

For "Actual Costs" during February, calculate:
1. All scheduled visits by technician - their hours * rate (which you can get from api endpoint x and y)
2. All one-offs... you can find their date used in endpoint a, and their cost in endpoint b

I mean there must be some way to calculate it, since it's so fundamental to simPRO. :-)

Another option might be if there's associated costs listed for invoice items, or the invoice as a whole, in the customerInvoices endpoint?

Thanks,
Johann

All scheduled visits by technician - their hours * rate (which you can get from api endpoint x and y)
Scheduled visits on a job for a set time period can be retrieved from the following endpoint and query parameters.

Code: Select all

/api/v1.0/companies/2/schedules/?Type=job&Reference={JobID}-%25&Date=between({StartDate YYYY-MM-DD},{EndDate YYYY-MM-DD})
All one-offs... you can find their date used in endpoint a, and their cost in endpoint b
That is not possible with current set of endpoints available. The only way to know if/when an item, one-offs etc is used, is by fetching jobs individually. There is no single endpoint which will give list of items and when and where it was used.

Thanks Muqeet,

Me mentioning schedules and one-offs was just an example - I wasn't asking about just those 2 specicially. The point is, it's completely opaque as to how exactly totals are calculated - we don't even know which bits we're missing.

On the jobs endpoint you get for instance:

Code: Select all

"Totals": {
  "MaterialsCost": {
    "Actual": 1.57,
    "Committed": 1.57,
    "Estimate": 1.57,
    "Revised": 1.57,
    "Revized": 1.57
  },
"ResourcesCost": {
  "Total": {
    "Actual": 1.57,
    "Committed": 1.57,
    "Estimate": 1.57,
    "Revised": 1.57,
    "Revized": 1.57
  },
  "Labor": {},
  "LaborHours": {},
  "PlantAndEquipment": {},
  "PlantAndEquipmentHours": {},
  "Overhead": {}
  },

  ...etc
So my question is - how is Totals->MaterialsCost->Actual, and Totals->ResourcesCost->Total->Actual, and the others, calculated?

While these values are useful, we can only see them for the whole job up to the present. We can't see what eg the actuals were for February only on a job. And jobs can span many months. We'll have to recalculate it from scratch using all the other endpoints, but without knowing EXACTLY what goes into those totals, this seems like an almost impossible task.

Is there any way you can find out and tell us the calculations for those Totals fields? This must be available somewhere, as it's used everywhere inside the app.

Thanks,
Johann

Hello Johann,

The question about how job totals are calculated is more of a product question than api. You can contact simPRO support or the integration team and ask for any product related questions.
