API and Licensing
Hi,
What are the licensing requirements for the various authentication methods?
I've requested a token via authorisation code grant with a test account, and it seems it has consumed a user license? That can't possibly be correct? It means I would need a license for every user, just to post data from PowerApps and PowerAutomate as them.
It seems I can still hit the API endpoints with queries and get results with my normal user account even though all the user licenses are consumed, but I can now no longer log back in to simPRO premium with my normal account as it is saying all my licenses are consumed.

Re: API and Licensing
Hi MatthewG
I am unsure what your reference to 'test account' means. The token issue is expected to be performed by an existing admin user from the Simpro UI /System Setup/API screen, this does not consume an additional licence. The created token is then made available by the admin user for use by the integrating application. You should not need to set up an additional account.

Re: API and Licensing
The admin generates the key pair, the user generates a token when authorising the app.
Each of my users log into the app, and connect the app to simPRO as themselves using authorisation code grant authentication method.
I have created another employee that is a test account, when authorising the app to use that account, the test account is listed on the "logged in user" page and consumes a license.

Re: API and Licensing
Any update on this one?
Re: API and Licensing
Hi MatthewG,
Have you tried any of the other authorisation methods to see if the same happens with these?
For example resource owner credentials grant where the users will log in with their own licences and see if you can avoid using an admin licence?

Re: API and Licensing
The users are logging in with their own credentials.
It consumes a license only when authorising and is then released after a period of time. It makes onboarding users to the app impossible as it consumes all of our licenses.

Any response?
Re: API and Licensing
Hello?
Re: API and Licensing
Hi Matthew,
I don't know the details of your licencing agreement or how it is setup as licencing is part of you Simpro agreement.
I am sorry we haven't gotten back to you earlier. We will check this internally and get back to you when we know more.

Re: API and Licensing
Just FYI, when the using authorisation code grant authentication method, it requires the user to log in using their personal credentials to authorise the app.
During this process it will consume a simPRO Premium license (which are concurrent licenses) for roughly a 30 minute period and then the license is released to be used by someone else.
After the application is authorised, and when the API connection is in use, the license is not consumed, it is only consumed during the authorisation process.
