Hyperlink with Custom Field

Hi Everyone
We are using a Hyperlink from a customizable PDF Invoice template. The Hyperlink directs the customer to our portal and tries to pass a customer ID which is a Custom Field. Unfortunately the custom field is not evaluated and the custom field name is passed instead of the data in the custom field
The Link Display works fine and evaluates to the custom field and actually displays the data. Anyone out there have any suggestions or work arounds please?
